What’s the difference between On-Body and Off-Body Hooping?
On-body hooping is what most people picture first: spinning the hoop continuously on the waist.
It can also travel to the hips, chest, shoulders, legs, and knees for a full-body dance workout.
For adults, body hooping is easiest to learn with larger, heavier hoops, which move more slowly and stay up longer. Our Adult Beginner Body Hoop is the perfect size and weight for adults to learn on.
Off-body hooping is a modern style of dance and moving meditation.
Anyone can learn tricks that are performed around the body and connect them in sequence to enter a state of flow.
This type of movement is typically performed with lighter, smaller Polypro hoops.
Think of it this way:
On-Body = Cardio + Dance
Off-Body = Agility + Dance

⏫ Why Bigger is Better
If you’ve ever thought, “I just can’t hula hoop,” it probably wasn’t you. It was the hoop.
When you’re new to hooping, choosing the right size hoop can make all the difference. For on-body hooping, larger, heavier hoops are easier for adults to use and more effective for learning.
Some companies sell heavy or bumpy “weighted hoops,” but that extra mass actually fights your body’s natural rhythm and can hurt you.
The secret isn’t excessive weight; it’s the right combination of diameter, weight and flexibility. Our softer 1" HDPE tubing delivers the perfect momentum and weight so you can learn faster and enjoy it longer. Trust us, you do not need overly heavy hoops to work up a sweat!
