MAJOR INNOVATIONS: EZ CLIPS AND GHOSTRIVETS

  TRADITIONAL METAL PUSHBUTTONS AND RIVETS

TRADITIONAL METAL PUSHBUTTONS AND RIVETS

As soon as I saw EZ Clips in hoops at HoopWest I knew I had to have them for the Geometric Revolution. My first polypro was from Dave at Serenity Hoops and New Whirled Designs, one of the first Canadian hoop companies, and he’s the one that came up with and distributes these revolutionary products globally to other hoop companies who know what’s up .

Metal pushbuttons that are traditionally used to make hoops collapsible (as seen above) were originally designed for metal gazebo poles. At this time mostly all hoop companies in Canada and the States are still using the traditional outdated hardware, but Dave has a vision to "change the whirled" with these pieces, and we are going to be a part of that :) The old metal pushbuttons are functional, but lots of times they hurt your fingers to use, and you have to use a tool or something to get the hoop open. Jamming a hard tool down a metal sphere towards your precious tubing or tape job is not ideal.  And even if the pushbutton seems easy to operate initially, the connection often gets stiff over time.  EZ Clips fix all that, and they are extremely lightweight.  They have a nylon head and the spring is made from galvanized music wire. The button barely pokes out above the tubing and gives your finger little resistance, making it easy to open and close any hoop.  The same hardware works in 5/8", 11/16", 3/4", and 7/8" tubing.

Traditional rivets form a piece of metal on both the inside and outside of the tubing, permanently fusing the connector piece. Ghost rivets are in fact not rivets at all. They are tiny screws that require more effort for the hoopsmith to install than a rivet, but the effect is revolutionary. After inserting the Ghost Rivet screw, the head is sliced off with a sharp razor and you're left with a perfectly smooth profile on the hoop. This is a lot nicer than a bumpy piece of metal that your hand must navigate in certain tricks like (ironically), ghosting. Also, it's lighter weight. It will never rattle, and your hair can never get stuck in it!
